TRIXES External Sound Card USB 6 Channel 5.1 Audio
------
Ordered this last night and received this morning all standard posting fees, just amazing. Installed the drivers on the mini-disc that came with it but even though it worked the output was only 2.1. No matter how much I tweaked the settings in the settings I still couldn't get it to output above 2.1. I googled "trust 510ex" and downloaded the drivers from their site and within seconds it was playing full 5.1 surround sound with no tweaks to settings. If anyone is having trouble with their soundcard, definitely look that up. The sound card does it's job perfectly and delivers pristine sound with no crackling or any negative effects. I would've gave a 5-star review if it were not for complete lack of instructions and clearly unsuitable drivers however this problem is very easily resolved.

I've converted my somewhat-older laptop into a media center that's permanently hooked up to my TV in the living room. It's plugged in to my TV via HDMI, and the audio is sent via optical cable from my TV to my receiver. Sadly, the HDMI out from the video card on the laptop only sends a stereo sound to my surround receiver, as the drivers are outdated and no longer supported in Linux.
Enter this little guy!
I plugged it in to my laptop and connected the optical out directly to my receiver. It was immediately in my list of available audio devices. At first the only output setting that was available was "stereo", so I restarted for good measure. Sure enough, that opened up a whole slew of surround options (including 7.1).
After selecting the right option, I launched XBMC (Kodi), and changed the output device to optical. I fired up a couple of DTS-encoded movies and finally got to hear them in glorious surround sound! The fact that my amp is doing all of the decoding makes the sound even better, too, which is exactly what I had hoped for!
I must say, I'm impressed. For a 10$ external sound card, this thing is incredible! I'm really surprised that I didn't have to manually edit any of the PulseAudio settings like I had to do just to get Lubuntu to recognize the HDMI audio on my video card.
Anyone looking to set up a cheap HTPC should not overlook this one for your sound needs!
